Imaging and characterization of nano-sized biological entities

Imaging and characterization of nano-sized biological entities, such as viruses and protein structures, are simplified using the Nano Channel Chip produced by Insight Chips. No freezing, staining, or modification of the samples is needed.

Scientists and researchers can quickly and easily capture live images and videos of protein crystals formation or biological nanoparticles suspended/fixed in fluids inside nano channels, hence monitoring of their movement and behavior in controlled environments using Electron Microscopy.

This method provides a clear visualization of the dynamics of proteins and other substances, tremendously enhancing what was previously possible with Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM).

Below are images taken of the nanoparticle Ferritin from equine spleen inside our Nano Channel Chips using TEM.

Our chip ensures a fixed and defined liquid thickness of approximately 150 nm and a SiN membrane thickness of 25 nm, providing optimal imaging conditions.

Future steps aim to enable dynamic experiments with flow, mixing, and exchange of liquids in the Nano Channel Chip while observing the proteins' behavior
